Orsome Welles : Rise

orsome.png

If Melbourne’s Orsome Welles opened a restaurant, it would be Michelin star worthy. Why? Because, like the best chefs, these guys are masters at balancing contrasting flavours. Since 2014, they’ve earned fans by smearing the industrial grit of prog rock against sickly sweet melody. Now they’re serving up their most impressive dish to date: the Rise EP.

Opener Build a World rides a meaty riff into the cosmos, while blistering lead lights up the belly of Father’s Eyes. Meanwhile, centrepiece Maestro is more dramatic than an episode of Married at First Sight with an equal amount of twists, turns, and surprises. While the musicianship is top notch throughout, its vocalist Michael Stowers’ stunning range and charismatic delivery that really elevates the band above many of their peers. Need further proof? Spin the heaving Elara or epic power ballad Rise Again to hear those pipes in full force.

If you’re a fan of bands like Karnivool or Dead Letter Circus, you’ll want to grab a copy of Rise, pronto. A heady blend of angelic vocals and melodies that reach for the stars, illuminate the EP’s five thunderous prog rock stompers. Simply orsome.
