Melbourne's most visionary DJs reanimate the iconic dome for Library Up Late x Now or Never
Library Up Late x Now or Never transforms State Library Victoria into an after-dark playground on 22 August.
The event returns with exclusive late-night access to the new Creative Acts exhibition, before surrendering to rhythm, light and movement. Library Up Late x Now or Never offers visitors the chance to roam the library’s grand halls and hidden corners while experiencing live performances, DJ sets and immersive interactive experiences.
Library Up Late x Now or Never features thrilling brass performances on the dome’s balcony, synth on the dais, mesmerising choral harmonies and collective automatic drawing sessions. The night celebrates artistic creation through multiple mediums, from traditional gamelan music to contemporary electronic beats, creating a transcendent experience under the heritage architecture.

The lineup showcases Melbourne’s diverse creative community across live performances, DJ sets and interactive experiences. Live performances feature Komang and Gamelan DanAnda delivering traditional Indonesian sounds, while Sooji Kim presents synth performances and the Concordis Chamber Choir provides mesmerising harmonies. House of Furia rounds out the live music programme with their distinctive sound.
DJ sets come from acclaimed artists including Darren Sylvester, DJ General Feelings, Aquenta and SMILEZ, each bringing their unique approach to electronic music. The diverse lineup promises to keep the dancefloor vibrating under the dome throughout the night.
Interactive and immersive experiences allow visitors to participate directly in the creative process. Barry William Hale guides collective automatic drawing sessions, while NOKO210 featuring Scott Barnes and Barry William Hale creates live ambient soundscapes. Lady Bijou offers tarot readings as a 10 dollar add-on experience, helping visitors learn their fate in the atmospheric library setting.
The event provides exclusive after-hours access to Creative Acts: Artists and their inspirations, the major new exhibition exploring the mysterious forces that drive artistic creation. Visitors can explore the exhibition featuring works by Peter Carey, Deanne Gilson, Vali Myers and other celebrated Australian artists while experiencing the library’s transformation into a creative playground.
