Sneaky Sound System, fireworks, carnival rides and Ventana Fiesta: Welcome to Frankston’s Waterfront Festival

Waterfront Festival
Words by Jordan McCarthy

The Waterfront Festival is back and feeling even fresher for the break. After going into isolation last summer, the popular event returns with a stacked line-up of musical talent, drink and food to be enjoyed, in whatever order you wish.

The Waterfront Festival will be kicking off on Saturday, February 19 at 12pm before winding up for the evening at 10pm. The following day will feature another 12pm kick off time before coming to close for the year at 8pm.

The event will have three stages of live music on the go, with the Garden Bar Stage hosting big names such as Sneaky Sound System, Gretta Ziller, Andrew Swift, Miss Lizzy and the Night Owls and for that early 90s nostalgia Jack Jones of Southern Sons fame.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around Melbourne here.

Frankston Youth Services will be in control of the Emerging Artist Stage which will feature all the local young talent the region has to offer, as well as a bunch of interactive activities and games to keep the crowd entertained.

For those looking forward to a drink in the sun, The Waterfront Festival will be featuring a bunch of beers and wines from around Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula, an area well known for its ability to produce a good drop. After dancing and drinking up a hunger, all your food needs are sorted too with many a food truck available for you to choose from scattered around the precinct.

Frankston City Council are pulling out all stops with the ever-popular Ventana Fiesta coming through. The celebration of Latin culture will feature plenty of noise and colour, including the popular Mexican Wrestling as well as the opportunity to experience some of their local cuisine.

There will also be a number of amusement rides on offer for the thrill seekers out there, as well as the EastLink-presented Dreaming Space, including circus activities and a blazing fire show to round out their Saturday night program at 7pm.

Though you’re likely to be bushed after a big day packed with fun and entertainment, hanging around ‘til late on the Saturday night is recommended as the evening will come to a close with an awesome fireworks display kicking off at 9:45pm to send you home.

The festival will be accessible to all, with plenty to do for both children, adults and the young at heart. The Waterfront Festival is that perfect summer weekend to get the early part of the year trending in the right direction.

The event will be going down at the Frankston Waterfront, Pier Promenade and Long Island Reserve across the two days. For more details head to their website here or follow the festival on both and Instagram.
