Show your support, win an Active Ally pack and celebrate World Pride with this new initiative

Active Ally

To celebrate Sydney WorldPride 2023, Skittles and youth charity Minus18 have come together to offer a free course on how to be a better LGBTQIA+ ally.

It’s one thing to say you support the queer community, but it’s a whole different thing to have the knowledge and understanding to make sure your support is having an impact towards positive change.

For those outside the LGBTQIA+ community, there can be a layer of mystery that can sometimes get in the way of activism. There are questions that can feel too embarrassing to ask. For example, what does that cheeky plus stand for? How do pronouns work? And what the heck is an otter?

The Active Ally course

  • Skittles and Minus18 have developed and free eight-part online course on how to be a better ally
  • The first 1000 participants can receive a free Ally Pack
  • The initiative was made as part of Sydney WorldPride 2023

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around Melbourne here.

To help heighten our understanding, the youth charity Minus18 has teamed up with the rainbow-colored candy Skittles to offer Australia’s biggest ever Active Allyship program in conjunction with Sydney WorldPride

The huge festival is running in Sydney from February 17 to March 5 and will feature a human rights conference, street parades, arts showcases, performances and so much more.

Anyone who’s interested in expanding their knowledge can take part in the free online course by Skittles and Minus18 that walks students through all of the ins and outs of active allyship. What’s more, the first 1000 participants to complete it can sign up to receive a free Ally Pack filled with tons of treats that’ll help put all the new skills to use.

The eight-module guide is informative but not overwhelming and includes help with breaking down the terminology, understanding queer histories, and incorporating practices that make space for the queer community into day-to-day life.

Take a gander over the course yourself, and maybe save yourself some explanation at the next family dinner by forwarding a link to that crotchety uncle – it’s time that we all got on the same page about how to be a better ally.
