Fun, High Energy Grunge.
So, someone is walking past as you guys are playing, they then go get a beer and tell their friend about you… what do they say?
“Just saw a kick-arse gig going down in the bandroom, they just finished their second song. They sound kind of like a heavier Jebediah with more harmonies, and I think I have a crush on the drummer! We should check em out!”
How long have you been gigging and writing?
Waverley formed just before releasing their debut EP in early 2009 and have been writing and stage testing new material while gigging since then.
What has been your favourite gig you’ve played to date?
You’d probably get four different answers from four different guys on this one. It’s been great to get the opportunity to play some of the bigger venues around town like Hi-Fi Bar and Billboard, but I think we have the best time when we play a smaller room that we know will be shoulder to shoulder and we can really communicate with the crowd.
Which band would you most like to have a battle/showdown with?
Calling All Cars for sure. We feel like we play a grungier, more dynamic style than the CAC guys, but we’d be pushing it to keep up with their freight train of a live show. And by pushing it I mean failing miserably. Those guys are giving bands in Australia a great name at the moment. You’d want to be at that gig… it would be intense!
What inspires or has influenced your music the most?
In our earlier material we really had a strong fixation on some pretty heavy emotions. We kind of used the band as a vehicle for getting some pretty bitter stuff off our chests, but lately we’re really interested in the idea of turning some of those emotions on their head and seeing what happens if you come at things from different angles.
What do you think a band has to do these days to succeed?
I think we are at the stage where we have to take the decline of live music seriously. We have to work together and look after each other–across different genres and styles–to make gigs fun and social places so that more people would want to come and see bands in general.

2009 EP They All Said We Wouldn’t Last And You Proved Them Right – available on iTunes, as well as 2011 single Where Were You – selling at gigs and on iTunes from September 23.
Why should everyone come and see your band?
Our goal with live gigs is to bring back what we grew up on. When you’d go out to be entertained and watch a band that plays songs that speak directly to you.
When are you playing live/releasing your album/EP/single/etc?
We are releasing Where Were You, the first single from our debut mini-album on Friday September 23 at Yah Yah’s
