Q&A: The Last Kinection

So then, what’s the band name and what do you ‘do’ in the band?

The Last Kinection. I’m the female MC and singer- I write all of my own lyrics and melodies etc.

What do you reckon people will say you sound like?

I have no idea! I’m pretty sure that my voice is kinda different so you either love it or hate it. I really love those artists that you hear and you know who it is even when you’re hearing the song for the first time. I strive to be like that, but then I just end up being myself which is even better!

What do you love about making music?

I honestly believe that music can change the world (amongst other things) because it changed my world when I was growing up. So every time I write a track, even when I perform, I feel like I’m a part of something so much bigger than our group, our gigs and our supporters. I love that feeling.

What do you hate about the music industry?

My first experience in the music industry was a big eye-opener, I learned a whole lot and had fun as well but in the end I was left disappointed; mainly that music in the commercial scene was almost everything that I was against. Music to me was hearing my parents rehearsing in the lounge room, laughter and original songs- not this fake crap because radio might like it.

If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be and why?

Bob Marley- his lyrics and delivery are so friggin; deadly! Also Tupac- he was one of the smartest and most talented conscious rappers of his time. Plus he was appealing to a very wide audience.

What can a punter expect from your live show?

Deep themes, a high intensity performance, laughter, humour, new tracks, crazy visuals controlled by our DJ, and positivity in full effect!

What’ve you got to sell CD-wise?

We’ve got our first album Nutches, second album Next of Kin, and lots of merch T-shirts, patches etc- and it’s all cheap!

When’s the gig and with who?

The Laundry Bar, November 5, with Impossible Odds and Omar Musa.

Anything else to add?
