Q&A: Cheetstreet

So then, what’s the band name and what do you ‘do’ in the band?

Cheetstreet. I am the singer, writer and producer.

Bearing the terrible clichéd nature of this question, what do you reckon people will say you sound like?

We’re electro/rock, so people will liken us to everyone from Talking Heads to MGMT. We get INXS a bit too.

What do you love about making music?

It’s the most immediate of the popular art forms. Writing something like a film, or a book, takes up so much time, while songs happen pretty quickly by comparison.

What do you hate about the music industry?

It’s great that most of us are going it alone these days, but the costs are hard to bear, i.e. publicists. Mind you, I’m a music video producer, so we save a bundle on our clips.

If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be and why?

Probably Bowie, but funnily enough, I was a Pseudo Echo fan when I was a kid, so having Brian Canham produce my mixes is close to that scenario.

If you could assassinate one person or band from popular music, who would it be and why?

Any act that consists of a producer, a DJ and an up and coming starlet.

What can a punter expect from your live show?

Me doing my white boy soul dancing, four charismatic musicians and an invisible keyboard player.

What’ve you got to sell CD-wise?

Two singles available for download, and I probably don’t need my personal CD collection anymore now that it’s all on my iTunes, so make me an offer.

When’s the gig and with who?

New single Summer Junkie out September 16.

Anything else to add?

Our album New Skates is coming soon.
