Joe Jack Talcum and Dandrew St Evens of long-running ‘80s college indie-punks The Dead Milkmen have announced an Australian tour. Playing under the combined name of Danjo, the duo will be performing hits from the Dead Milkmen catalogue, spanning from their 1985 full length debut Big Lizard in My Backyard to their upcoming EP Welcome to the End of the World. Minneapolis punk rock legends Husker Du have announced the upcoming release of a 4xLP box set of unreleased early recordings. Entitled Savage Young Du, the collection will contain previously unheard recordings from early sessions, particularly unreleased tracks laid down during the session for their 1983 landmark EP Metal Circus. From the label, “Follow the Hüskers to their earliest gigs in 1979, through extensive road dog touring, and to the start of their partnership with West Coast tastemaker SST in 1983 via a 108-page hardbound book crammed full of photos, flyers, and a sprawling essay with participation from the band. Spread across four LPs, 47 of the 69 songs compiled here are previously unissued, and includes In A Free Land, Everything Falls Apart , and an alternate Land Speed Record.” Savage Young Du is due for release this November on Numero Uno.
Brisbane hardcore riffers Hurricane Death (how mad is that name by the way?) have announced the upcoming release of an eight song 7”. Entitled Failed Species, the record will follow up their 2015 demo cassette. Available for streaming now, the record will be out next month on Naked Noise and Best Wishes records.
Not quite punk rock, although they do have Pat Smear of The Germs on guitar these days, radio rockers Foo Fighters have announced a national tour with fellow power-pop rockers Weezer. What is quite punk rock is the announcement of Melbourne punk rock staples Clowns, Amyl and the Sniffers and Cosmic Kahuna joining these shows in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth respectively. While Clowns have played arena show supports and large festivals before, the addition of Amyl and the Sniffers and Cosmic Kahuna is completely unprecedented and in my opinion completely hilariously awesome, especially since they’re the kind of bands you’re more likely to see at a 150 capacity pub than a football stadium. It’s always great to see the incredible music scene we have here in Melbourne being recognised on a wider scale, especially to this level. While the scene here is exceptionally strong and needs no help, the exposure of these bands to a typical arena rock fan might just convert a few people to the raw sounds of Melbourne. Foo Fighters, Weezer and Clowns will play Etihad Stadium on Tuesday January 30.
Perth heavy rockers Scalphunter have announced the release of their debut full-length album. Following up the release of their 2014 self-titled 10” EP, new record Lies will feature a continuation and expansion of the band’s huge heavy riffing hard rock punk sound. With lead single A Lie They Call The Truth available for streaming now, Lies is due for release on Friday September 29 via Arrest Records.
