Following up from their enchanting debut single 'why do i care', which released worldwide earlier in the year, Ally Row are premiering their immersive new single titled 'Struggling to breathe', out today.
An emotive and transcendent indie pop-folk track, ‘Struggling to breathe’ is about the difficulties of moving on from love lost. Written during the lockdowns of 2020 in Melbourne, there is also an underlying message for those who are processing feelings of hopelessness: they are not alone.
Produced by Echo and Bloom’s Mat Dwyer and mastered by Nicholas De Lorenzo, this song manages to blend dramatic pop elements with raw emotions to create what the indie-folk duo describe as “a heart-wrenching and breathtaking experience”. Set to release on all streaming platforms worldwide this week, Thursday 18 November.

Melbourne-based but currently living on the road in Far North Queensland, indie-folk two-piece band Ally Row are always writing music. The lifestyle sounds fantastic, including busking to pay for their travel expenses (essentially ‘singing for their supper’).
Consisting of Alice Fitzgerald and Rowan Sizer, their blend of unique harmonies, emotional melodies and story driven lyrics, takes cues from the likes of Missy Higgins, Alivan Blue, Angus and Julia Stone and Of Monsters and Men. They also say they’re heavily inspired by 70s artists Carole King, James Taylor, Elton John and Yusuf Stevens, hoping to “fuse elements of vintage song-writing with modern prose”.
Last month, they played at the Tablelands Folk Festival and won the Open Songwriter’s ‘The Real McCoy’ Award for one of their folky travelling songs ‘Barefeet’- which they hope to release early next year.
