The first Off the Hip record was the first Stoneage Hearts album with Danny McDonald and Ian Wettenhall. What’s your dream Stoneage Hearts lineup? We have a new lineup in place for album number four: Rob Griffiths vocals, Stew Cunningham guitar, Dave and I remain on bass/drums respectively. Dream team: Dom Mariani, Michael Carpenter (bass), Matt Galvin. Overseas dream team: Tommy Keene, Matthew Sweet, Mitch Easter. Now wouldn’t that be fun.
For a period Johnny Casino was the most prolific artist on Off the Hip. What is he up to? Johnny has a new album just out and another mixed and ready for release in a few months. He’s enjoying Spain and playing plenty of great shows there and across Europe. Johnny has set up his own label for these and all future releases.
Is King Salami, of King Salami and the Cumberland 3, the most charismatic lead singer you’ve featured on Off the Hip? Absolutely, KS&TC3 are a hard working party machine, much like the mighty Fleshtones in many ways.
Many similar labels have fallen by the wayside. What is the secret to longevity? Never underestimate the economic prowess of the humble CD. In the coming year we’ll be releasing albums by Majestic Kelp, Thee Wylde Oscars, Stoneage Hearts, The Stanleys, The Wellingtons, Fiction, Grinding Eyes and more.
