What’s the band name and what do you ‘do’ in the band? We’re called nyck (pronounced n.y.c.k). It’s Dom Garrard and me, Nick Acquroff. We both play keys, synths, sing etc.

What do you love about making music? There’s always something to do that’s new and different and a bit scary. You write for a bit, then you record. You play live in front of people, and then you stay at home alone. You feel completely useless at what you do, then you write a good song.

What do you hate about the music industry? We’re stoked on the music industry, actually. It’s given us everything we have and we love what we’re doing.

If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be and why?I’d really like to go and sit with Nick Drake in his shed and hear him playing music. You can hear that shed in all of his records and I’ve always wanted to be in there, at that time, watching him make it. Maybe then after he was finished for the day we could put one of the nyck records on and talk about how much shitter we are than him.

What can a punter expect from your live show? We’ve started getting pretty chatty with crowds. We’re playing with a full band at The Workers, so it’ll be all new. There’s lots of dynamic. Loud parts with heaps of instrumentation. Quiet parts stripped raw and bare.
