The Australian music scene remains heavily male-dominated. According to 2024 stats, just two of 17 APRA Awards categories went to female artists. Only seven per cent of triple j’s Hottest 100 songs featured female acts. Many Australian festivals continue booking lineups dominated by male artists, particularly in headlining positions.

LOUD WOMEN has operated tastemaker events in London and New York since 2015. The intersectional feminist collective built its reputation championing emerging female and non-binary talent. Their London events regularly sell out venues across the capital.

The December festival in Melbourne addresses the gender imbalance plaguing Australian music. LOUD WOMEN Fest Australia creates dedicated spaces for female, trans and non-binary artists. These showcases offer networking opportunities often unavailable elsewhere. The events connect emerging artists with established industry professionals.

LOUD WOMEN Fest Australia directly challenges this disparity. The festival celebrates diverse voices often marginalised by mainstream events.

Artists can submit applications through LOUD WOMEN’s official channels. The collective reviews all submissions regardless of experience level. They prioritise authenticity and artistic merit over commercial success. This approach discovers genuine talent often overlooked by industry gatekeepers.

The collective prefers punk, metal, rock and indie acts but considers all applications regardless of genre.

The 2025 festivals, in Melbourne and Sydney, build on previous Australian success. LOUD WOMEN’s debut Australian events received enthusiastic responses from artists and audiences alike. The collective expanded based on this positive reception. They aim to establish annual Australian festivals moving forward.
