Melbourne’s White Night program is here, and it’s trippy AF

The all-encompassing annual event celebrating Melbourne’s culture of live music, art, food and drink is back for 2018 and this year promises to be bigger and better than anything we’ve seen from the festival yet.

This year, Melbourne’s White Night theme is dedicated to perspective, offering dreamlike sequences that aim to prompt audiences to ask ‘What If?’

Amongst the program this year are two iconic pieces previously featured at Nevada’s legendary Burning Man, Serpent Mother and UKI. Serpent Mother combines performance and art installation through a monstrous metal flaming skeletal creature controlled entirely by performers which will take over Melbourne Plaza.

UKI – or Utility Kinetic Insect – is a creation inspired by the Australian outback, resulting in a mutant insect 4×4 stimulated by its immediate environment, resulting in an interactive experience unlike any you’ve ever experienced. UKI was designed to inspire viewers to ponder the future and where technology will take us.

In addition to these two incredible pieces, White Night has a plethora of other treats in store. Little Bourke Street will be transformed into a snow-covered wonderland which will host a 12-hour live music marathon whilst the Royal Exhibition Building will be engulfed by a video-mapping installation. You can also catch performances such as Priscilla Queen of the Desert The Musical and art installation pieces like Altar To The Future, Reclining Woman, and Light The Way.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg that is this year’s White Night so be sure to check out the full 2018 program, you don’t want to miss out on this magical 12-hour adventure.
