Melbourne’s Pearl releases debut ‘Ghost’ with At The Drive In’s Jim Ward

Pearl

New solo Melbourne artist Pearl has released her debut single 'Ghost' featuring At The Drive In, Sparta's Jim Ward on backing vocals.

Pearl is the new solo project of Melbourne songwriter Kris Killriot, who you may know from the likes of KTA, and Filth Dimension, who have released a few rocking singles over the past three years.

Pearl’s debut single ‘Ghost’ is an atmospheric blend of punk and grunge, elevated by superb vocal work, that according to its creator “encapsulates a story and journey of dark and light through deeply personal lyrics.”

If you needed any greater reason to jump on board the Pearl train, look no further than the feature from legendary songwriter Jim Ward, a founding member of one of the most influential post-hardcore bands of all time, At The Drive In, as well as the lead songwriter from Sparta. Ward features on guest backing vocals, which are utilised in a beautifully restrained fashion, and the two voices together are exactly as designed: powerful and moving.

“The song Ghost was written in the midst of a very long lockdown,” Kris says. “I started to question everything about my existence and had a deep desire to experience how life would be without the things that fed my ego.  I became despondent with social media and the insane addiction to it.

“I started writing about witnessing the death of an ego, killing it, destroying it, letting it die and going on a quest to find out who I actually was.

“The death of an ego. And the real question was who would I be without it.”
