Melbourne International Comedy Festival
Words by Ben Lamb

The 2022 Melbourne International Comedy Festival is in full swing with the second weekend almost upon us, so it’s time to get a bit experimental and see some shows that are weird yet totally wonderful.

Damo and Mick’s Backyard Quiz

Mates Damo and Mick are bringing their backyard banter to the MICF stage this weekend. It’s an all-Aussie quiz show, which has been described as Spicks and Specks and QI had dumber questions and happened at a BBQ. It’s going down at Storyville Melbourne at 3pm on Saturday and Sunday. Grab your tickets here.

Faulty Towers: The Dining Experience

Ever watched an old school comedy and wish you could be a part of it? Well, the MICF can help your dreams come true with their immersive Fawlty Towers experience. Join Basil, Sybil and Manuel as they run their Fawlty Tower. It’s happening at the Stamford Plaza this weekend at 1pm and 7pm.

Issue 1: The Improvised Superhero Movie

Over the slew of cookie-cutter blockbuster superhero movies? We get it. But there’s something a little different about this one, the team at The Improv Pit make up a 55-minute superhero movie on the spot based on audience suggestions, it’s something that needs to be seen to be believed. It’s on at the Lantern Lounge this weekend at 6:15pm, grab your tickets here.

Stew Walker – Sleep Apnea the Musical

Got a partner who keeps you up at night? Bring them to Sleep Apnea the Musical this weekend. Follow comedian Stew Walker in his journey to treat his Sleep Apnea in musical form. Be prepared to be in stitches while he dives into almost an hour of hilarious songs about it all. It’s happening at the Fad Gallery at 5pm this weekend, grab your tickets here.

Game Boys Comedy: Hey Hey It’s The Butterfly Club

Your grandma’s favourite show is coming back, well sort of. The boys behind Game Boys Comedy are bringing their take on the popular long running Aussie variety show to the MICF.

It premiered back in 2021, where they had to do a virtual version, which saw Hey Hey It’s Saturday alum Kamahl perform. So who knows what they’ll have in store now they can do it for real?

It’s happening at The Butterfly Club this Saturday at 11:30pm, grab your tickets here.
