Paul Chowdhry has sold out Wembley Arena, but AI: Artificial Indian lands at Melbourne Recital Centre on 13 December.
Yes, the AI stands for Artificial Indian. Paul Chowdhry is bringing AI: Artificial Indian to Australia and New Zealand for six dates, opening at Auckland’s Skycity Theatre on 3 December and finishing at Perth’s Astor Theatre on 15 December. Melbourne gets its turn in Southbank at 7pm on 13 December, two nights after Adelaide.
Chowdhry was the first British Asian stand-up to sell out Wembley Arena. He’s since filled London’s O2 and Birmingham’s Utilita Arena, and sold out five nights at the Hammersmith Apollo. The show has already done the rounds of North America with Live Nation, and he’s worked Netflix Is a Joke and Just for Laughs Montreal this year. In Vancouver, he played the Rio Theatre twice in one night.

Presale runs from 2pm on 29 October until 10am on 30 October, through the Bohm Presents mailing list. General tickets go on sale an hour after it closes, at 11am on 30 October. For the Melbourne show, you’ll be buying through the Melbourne Recital Centre box office rather than Ticketek or Ticketmaster, which handle most of the other cities. Bohm Presents flags coarse language and adult themes.
If the face rings a bell, it’s probably from Taskmaster or Live at the Apollo. He’s also acted in The Cleaner, Devils and Disney’s Cruella. His stand-up specials include Live Innit for Amazon and Family-Friendly Comedian for Sky Comedy, while a fifth, Englandia, is set to be filmed in London’s West End.
Live Innit was the show that first got Chowdhry to Australia, and that run included a drop-in at the Athenaeum during the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. This time he’s got a whole room in Southbank to himself.
