Melbourne Fringe Festival is calling for more than 250 volunteers to help bring the 2025 festival to life.

The annual independent arts festival relies on passionate volunteers who bring energy, warmth and love for the arts to venues across Melbourne. Melbourne Fringe Festival creates vital space for independent artists who make Melbourne’s creative scene so distinctive and vibrant.

Volunteers play crucial roles across multiple teams during the festival period, from greeting audiences to supporting accessibility initiatives. The festival offers five different volunteer roles, each providing unique opportunities to engage with Melbourne’s thriving arts community while gaining valuable experience in event management and customer service.

Melbourne Fringe Festival volunteer positions include Access Champion roles supporting patrons with accessibility needs, All Rounders who experience varied duties across different shifts, Audience Engagement Greeters who welcome festival-goers, Front of House Attendants managing venue operations, and Superstar Volunteers who take on additional responsibilities.

Each volunteer shift runs between three to four hours, with most volunteers committing to two or three shifts per week during the festival. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and demonstrate willingness to engage with the public while maintaining enthusiasm for Melbourne’s arts industry.

Successful applicants receive Melbourne Fringe Festival team merchandise, official identification passes, admit one passes to shows for each shift completed, discounts at participating businesses and festival bars, invitations to the volunteer thank you party, and completion certificates. Many former volunteers have progressed to paid positions within the organisation.

The volunteer coordinator will contact successful applicants during the week beginning Monday, 18 August, with mandatory briefing sessions scheduled for mid-September at Trades Hall in Carlton.
