Editor’s Note
I wasn’t even in high school yet when Franz Ferdinand dropped their breakout single ‘Take Me Out’, I still remember strutting around my loungeroom every time that song came on MTV (or whatever music network was the rage at the time). So it was pretty bloody cool to have a chat with the band’s vocalist Alex Kapranos and still hear a sense of wonder and excitement about what his band are currently doing. We chatted about expectation and creation, and well you can read all about it in a few pages time.
We also chatted to Pagan frontwoman (and absolute powerhouse) Nikki Brumen after her band were recently added to Pool House Party’s lineup, Biffy Clyro also jumped on the blower ahead of their Melbourne visit, J-Milla chats about creating music that tackles racism and we get the lowdown on Bruthen Blues Festival, Melbourne Women In Film Festival, and Transitions Film Festival.
Did you head to Laneway? Woo boy it was a hot one (I should’ve worn a hat like I was told) and the artists were on fire. Special shout out to Anderson .Paak who converted me from casual listener to full blown fan girl.
There’s so much going on this week it’s hard to know where to start – so thanks for starting here with me.
