Issue 1613

Words by Gloria Brancatisano

Editor’s Note

If there’s one thing we Australians do really bloody well, it is claim fab New Zealanders as our own, and that is exactly what I plan to do with this week’s cover star Marlon Williams. Not only is his voice divine, but his knack for honest and soul-shuddering storytelling is everything I’m here for. His new album Make Way For Love is almost upon us (or maybe it’s already upon you, what day is it?) so we sat down for a one-on-one, heart-to-heart chat, perfect for this time of year.

Speaking of new albums Alice Ivy, Tim Hart, First Aid Kit, and Beck all have ‘em, and we’ve got the inside scoop on each and every one. We also chat with Lake Minnetonka’s Adam Rudegeair about bringing the sounds of Melbourne and Minneapolis together, Tinariwen about combining music and politics, and to top it all off we’ve brought together some of the best learning institutions in this fine city to help you master something new.

Also, shout out to my partner in editorial fun (and possibly crimes) James Di Fab – this issue here marks 100 since he started creating this fine magazine, so if you see him around give him a hi-five, pat on the back, or some other less invasive pleasantry.
