Summer Mondays featuring Washed Out, El Guincho and more.
Monday’s had a bad rap for some time now, but from December 13th 2010 to 31st January 2011, it won’t be so bad. Happy Mondays have invited a selection of Australian and international acts to join us on this small city rooftop to play music as the sunsets over Melbourne. The shows promise to be intimate affairs with a very limited ticket allocation.
The festival program will be released in two installments, with additional announcements scattered along the way so stay tuned for more details. And for now, here’s the December program for you.
The festival launches with a rare double bill featuring two of the most refreshing dance music makers around. Spanish one man band El Guincho’s mix of afrobeat, pop, dub, tropicália, and early rock’n’roll will be complimented by the laid back sounds of US producer Washed Out, the flag bearer of the chillwave movement. This is space age exotica meets some seriously mellow synth pop. The perfect way to bring in summer and come down from Meredith Music Festival.
Specialising in three minute guitar pop jams, the gents of Dan Kelly’s Dream Band will pair up with US beauties Those Darlins, three gals from Nashville with a brazen love of rollicking country guitar licks, loud angular punk rock drums and Dolly Parton style sing-a-longs. That’s Monday number two.
The undisputed champion of blues and folk, US solo musician Charlie Parr will wrap up December with his fierce, floorthumping and utterly rollicking live show. Charlie will be joined by a soon-to-be-announced special guest band (there’s a clue!) in early December.
Entertainment comes in the form of food as well, so to top it all off in the most delicious way Beatbox Kitchen will be serving up all their favourite meals from the roof including The Raph Burger and The Shroom Burger.
It all starts on Monday December 13, for a weekly Summer series. For more information check the website http://www.happymondays.com.au/
