Following the warmly received Mothersong, Softly, Once Again finds Senior cheekily reflecting on Melbourne’s punk-saturated scene while giving herself permission to create on her own terms.

“So many punk bands in this town / So little said, for all that sound,” she muses over gentle baroque-inspired arrangements, intricate melodies and Beatles-esque pop touches.

The slightly softer sister to its predecessor, the song features playful flute and horn contributions from Hank Clifton-Williamson and Liam McGorry, with Jack Robbins and Luke Brennan locking in a delightfully loose rhythm section, Jesse Williams on electric guitar, and sister Andi adding harmonious support.

“This started off as a cheeky song picturing myself as a quaint folk lady in a world of rock,” Senior explains. “It became a kind of permission to do things softly.”

The single is paired with a whimsical animated visualiser by Luke Player, full of surreal pastoral imagery that perfectly captures the song’s spirit.

Pt. Roadknight, due June 19, was written during Senior’s time living in a sandstone beach shack in Anglesea. The record channels the quiet isolation and vibrant seasonal shifts of coastal life, blending ‘70s Brit folk touchstones with fresh, wholehearted lyrics tackling gentrification and modern disconnection.

A decade into her career, Senior has shared stages with Wilco, Iron & Wine, Jessica Pratt and King Gizzard, cementing her status as one of Australia’s most authentic folk voices.
