The Bergy’s throwing a huge charity gig and album launch party for MS

Five local acts are coming together for a great cause on a Sunday afternoon.

Melbourne’s vibrant local music scene is rallying for a powerful cause as Songs For returns to Bergy Bandroom on Saturday 28 June with a special fundraiser for Kiss Goodbye to MS.

The initiative was launched last year by organiser Thom Johnston following the MND diagnosis of his late aunty Jules. Unwilling to sit idle, Thom created a unique project where local artists write and record original songs inspired by artworks from Melbourne creators.

The tracks are then put into a compilation album, with a live launch gig where all profits go directly to charity. The motto “GIGS FOR GOOD – RECORDS FOR A REASON” perfectly captures the spirit.

This year the event shifts focus to support Kiss Goodbye to MS, the major Australian campaign raising vital funds for MS research, prevention, and better treatments through MS Australia. The campaign has already raised millions nationally for programs that improve the lives of people living with multiple sclerosis.

The stacked lineup for the Bergy Bandroom show features some of Melbourne’s most exciting acts: rising pop-rockers The Rest is History, fresh country outfit Bovine, heartfelt folk-rock project Yours, Georgina (the moniker of singer-songwriter Georgie Currie), alternative three-piece The Robbies, and alt-folk/rock group Buckleys.

Bergy Bandroom, the much-loved Brunswick dive bar, bandroom and beer garden, continues to prove itself as a community hub that consistently backs local causes.

Last year’s inaugural Songs For event raised an impressive $3000 for MND Victoria. With an even stronger bill and Melbourne’s generous music community behind it, expectations are high for an even bigger impact this time around.

Mark your calendars for 28 June at Bergy Bandroom. Support local music and help Kiss Goodbye to MS. Tickets here.
