Reuben Lewis and friends bring absurd, brilliant, and "potentially interesting" sounds to Melbourne for one night only.
Melbourne’s most unhinged sonic adventurers are taking over Northcote Social Club this month with a wild one-off event that promises to bend minds and ears in equal measure.
Led by ARIA-nominated trumpeter and producer Reuben Lewis, I Hold the Lion’s Paw will perform material from their third studio album Potentially Interesting Jazz Music alongside a stacked lineup of experimental heavyweights on Wednesday 27 May.

Blending wide ranging influences into a glorious fever dream, IHTLP’s live show is equal parts fierce live performance, psychedelic ambience, spoken word and avant-garde electronics.
The result is what happens when four exceedingly talented musicians decide to go rogue – absurd, brilliant, and completely immersive.
The new album invites listeners to slow down and dive deeper in an age of constant noise, described by Paris Move as “a deliberate act of resistance” and by the Sydney Morning Herald as feeling “like stumbling into someone else’s LSD trip.”
The stacked bill kicks off at 8pm with James Hullick delivering Noise in Red, a performance on electric guitar and electronics in surround sound with video projections.
The Amplified Elephants follow, plunging deep into oceanic sonic art, ambient waves and powerful strident textures inspired by the sea and the urgent need to protect it.
Poet, performer and multi-talented force Tariro Mavondo then takes the stage with her potent mix of spoken word and music, before I Hold the Lion’s Paw takes us home.
This is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing and downright fun experimental nights Melbourne has seen in months – part contemporary art installation, part psychedelic jazz ritual.
If you’re after something genuinely different that rewards close listening (and loose dancing), this is it.
