The next series of events will take place from Monday June 7 until Sunday June 27.

La Mama has revealed the next round of events happening as part of its quarterly La Mamica program, running from Monday June 7 until Sunday June 27.

Spanning music, cabaret, poetry and cinema, the program will be split into four nights, each dedicated to a different art form.

Launching with Musica, the music portion of the La Mamica program will feature an unusual ensemble of instruments including flutes, tuba, trumpets, contrabass recorder, and a percussionist playing paper. Composed by K. Travers Eira and titled (dis)locations, the unique performance will take the audience on an immersive aural journey.

Next up comes Poetica, showcasing four thought-provoking poets offering unique perspectives and disciplines within the realms of contemporary poetry. Angela Costi, Emilie Collyer, Michael Farrell and Thabani Tshuma will each perform readings for the event in what promises to be an evocative evening.

The penultimate La Mamica event for June, Cabaretica, will look at the devastating closure of theatre departments and cuts to student theatre organisations in numerous Australian universities in 2020.

Emceed by RMIT lecturer Fiona Scott Norman and featuring Monash alumni Patrick Collins and La Trobe alumni Picked Last for Sport, the evening looks to shine a light on the incredible talent that these institutions foster.

Finally, rounding out the program comes Cinematica. The third 2021 instalment of La Mamica’s cinema offering will focus on gender, sexuality, our natural environment and how these concepts connect with a selection of films by Australian filmmakers including Melody Woodnutt, Grace Tan, Jessica Barclay Lawton, Alex Cardy, Paddy Hay, and Louis Marlo.

La Mamica runs from Monday June 7 – Sunday June 27. For tickets and more information, visit the La Mama website
