THE DELTA RIGGS ask KINGSWOOD
If we were Oasis and Blur, which of us would be Oasis and which would be Blur & why?
With all those ‘90s Brit rock designer haircuts you boys sport, I would say you would be Oasis.
Who is the biggest liability in Kingswood?
Probably our guitar tech Jimi. He loves to drink and then just sit and watch the crowd whilst Laska’s amp or guitar keeps dropping out.
You guys have been recording in Nashville which is cool. Was that a conscious decision to go there specifically? How has that experience been different to recording locally?
We wanted to work with Vance Powell and to record at a studio such as blackbird. It’s our first album so we didn’t want to do it half-arsed. It was more of an experience doing the album abroad and there were no distractions which can tend to happen when recording locally.
Can we take out Alex’s car for a joy ride if we promise to look after it?
Yeah why not? What could possibly go wrong?
What are your top three Australian artists kicking around at the moment?
The Drones, Pond, Paul Kelly.
You have to save the world and all you have is a hammock, a shovel, a dildo and a copy of your album. What do you do?
Leave the album behind as it could become a collector’s item after only selling 35 physical copies. Bury the dildo for future generations or aliens to discover. Make a cocoon out of the hammock and mud and jump inside with the shovel and wait for a Trojan horse moment on board the mothership of the aliens.
KINGSWOOD ask THE DELTA RIGGS
Who is a better drummer? Simon or Elliot? Why?
They are both equally as great as the other. To be honest I think having two talented drummers in the group helps push the dynamic and the band in ways it otherwise wouldn’t.
Given Elliot’s tenure in Andrew Stockdale’s band, is there anything that you guys have learnt from his experience about the industry that will put TDR in good stead?
I think Elliott was exposed to a lot and took both the good and bad away from that experience as a whole. We were able to keep the bands working concurrently but also separately, which worked well for all involved.
Have you guys started working on album number two? What can we expect?
We have actually, it’s all pretty much all been recorded and hopefully will have it out early next year. It still has the Riggs swagger and attitude but we have experimented a lot with alternate grooves and rhythms along with some interesting vocal melodies. We are really excited about it all.
What are your thoughts on the state of the music industry in Australia.
I think there are some rad bands around at present. Bad//Dreems, The Pretty Littles, The Preatures and Violent Soho are all bands I am loving currently. As far as the industry goes, I suppose it’s pretty healthy and doing a lot better than in recent times. Especially in other markets, I feel that Australia has a real presence overseas again which is cool.
Top five favourite Australian bands of all time?
The Sleepy Jackson, You Am I, INXS, Tame Impala, Divinyls.
If the world was about to end but you were granted the right to live and save two of your band mates. Who would you save and why?
Are you trying to cause a rift within the group and break up the band? I’d politely decline the offer and have them all perish with me. What would Switzerland do?
