Strung Out announce eight-date Australian tour for September

Words by staff writer

US punk act Strung Out celebrate 30 years of Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues with a national headline run.

An album shorter than most commutes is turning 30, and Strung Out are touring Australia to celebrate.

The US punk outfit will hit the road this September for an eight-date national headline tour, marking three decades since the release of Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues. Originally dropping in 1996, the record squeezed 13 songs into 32 minutes and quickly became a landmark release for punk fans. From the opening blast of Firecracker through to Wrong Side of the Tracks, Strung Out fused hook-driven melodies with high-speed riffs at a pace that barely lets up.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around Melbourne here.

Across ten studio albums and years of relentless touring, the group have earned a reputation as one of punk rock’s tightest and most direct live acts. Their Australian run kicks off at The Rosemount in Perth on 16 September before heading east through Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Caloundra, Wollongong and wrapping at Crowbar in Sydney on 26 September. Melbourne’s date lands at the Croxton on 19 September.

Australian fans can expect the 30th anniversary record to feature prominently throughout each set, alongside material pulled from across the band’s wider catalogue. Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues remains one of those records where the compact runtime works in its favour, with 32 minutes of zero filler making it a natural fit for a full live airing.

With ten records behind them and a set built on energy, precision and no wasted time on stage, Strung Out aren’t treating this as a victory lap. Tickets are on sale now via SBM Presents.
