King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard added to Laneway Festival lineup

Psych rockers King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard will be getting down at Laneway fresh from tearing up the country with their namesake festival, Gizzfest.

They’ll be taking to the stage armed with brand new material, recently releasing a brand new track from their forthcoming album, Flying Microtonal Banana

King Gizz’s Stu Mackenzie has alluded to microtonal experimentation on their forthcoming release, telling Beat the origin of how the record got its name.

“My friend Zach very generously built a guitar for me,” said Mackenzie. “Part way through making the guitar, I told Zach that I wanted to put microtones in the frets of the guitar. That involves adding extra frets that aren’t usually there on the board – it’s like accessing secret notes of guitar, the tones in between your regular frets. It’s a concept that I had wanted to look into further for quite a while, and this album seemed like the right place to explore it.
