Live, in the lead-up to the release of The Golden Echo, this is the track that stuck out as a winner. On record, it’s a lil’ overcooked, Kimbra’s rich timbre layered with infinite layers of vocals. It feels like this could have gone in a Random Access Memories direction for a tasteful throwback to golden era R&B, but instead went in a lot of different directions simultaneously. It’s still a corker of a composition, just a tad mired by head-scratching production choices. Lyrically, a not-too garish invocation of Kimbra’s Christian-folk roots.
