Hip Hop: Australia’s answer to Lil Dicky, and Daniel Caeser and Dizzee Rascal both heading Down Under

It’s time to escape the heat and chill out to some of the coolest Aussie hip hop acts this summer. Hailed as Australia’s version of Lil Dicky, Melbourne rapper Clue has just released his official debut comedy-rap single ‘Guy Problems’. A hilarious approach to first-world problems, the song mocks the daily struggles faced by a privileged white male in our society. Clue isn’t a newcomer to the hip hop scene, with his resume boasting tours with iconic Aussie heavyweights Seth Sentry, Pez and Illy. ‘Guy Problems’ is taken from Clue’s upcoming EP Australian Famous, which is due for release early this year. You can catch him at his EP preview show at Grumpy’s on Saturday February 20. Joining him are local artists Johniepee, Martian, Velvet Sand, Joey Maker and Bruce Hathcock, with more to be announced.

Get ready for the first Get Down showcase of 2018. With a record for introducing some of the best up-and-coming acts to the hip hop industry last year, the night is set to bring in the year with a bang. The very first lineup of the year includes Kid-G, Serenity Uki, Teepz Muzik, P-UniQue Music, Krown, MC Wasp and Dj Dopebeat. Entry is $15 and there will be a bunch of giveaways on the night. Head on down to The Get Down 7 at Horse Bazaar on Saturday February 17.

This year prepare to empty out the bank account as more international artists land on Aussie shores. Toronto native Daniel Caeser will be heading Down Under for his very first Australian tour. With his sensual R&B tracks and soulful voice, the rising superstar has captured hearts around the globe. He rose to fame in 2014 with his EP Praise Break, and last year’s debut album Freudian which saw the artist receive two Grammy Nominations. Daniel Caeser will take to the stage at 170 Russell on Tuesday March 20.

The pioneer of grime, Dizzee Rascal is returning to Australia. The chart-topping UK artist first stepped onto the scene way back in 2003 and has won BET, Brit, NME and Urban Music awards for a number of songs over an array of albums. Dizzee Rascal’s sixth album Raskit is a combination of grime and UK hip hop, with Dizzee going back to his roots. You can see the hotly anticipated act when he performs at The Forum on Tuesday February 20.

Hip-hop superstar Goldlink has just announced a second show this March. Following the success of his platinum single ‘Crew’ and an overwhelming response to his major label debut album At What Cost, the US artist has become an iconic rapper in the ever-changing hip-hop scene. Tickets are selling fast and it is still possible to get your hands on the VIP Meet and Greet experience. Goldlink will be performing at 170 Russell on 23 and 28 March.
