Name of band:

Harvest Smoke

Define your genre in five words or less:

Cowpunk-power-pop.

So, someone is walking past as you guys are playing, they then go get a beer and tell their friend about you… what do they say?

Whoa! It’s the lone ranga! I love that guy.

How long have you been gigging and writing?

Since late 2010, having all stumbled into a room at request of main man Benny J Ward (ex Screwtop Detonators). He dragged fellow ex Screwtop Leroy French, along with Sons of Lee Marvin’s Stu Manchu & Knuckles, and Harvest Smoke was born. Some gigs, studio time & bang – a debut album is out now.

What has been your favourite gig you’ve played to date?

Probably the Off The Hip instore party, or watching Knuckles play his hit songs during breaks at rehearsal – now that’s a gig.

Which band would you most like to have a battle/showdown with?

Probably Jason & The Scorchers doing Telling White Lies up against us covering it, but hilariously changing the lyrics to Special Fried Rice. Oh the humour!

What inspires or has influenced your music the most?

Benny’s six month road trip with his wife Nici through the red dirt of Oz, spat out an album’s worth of songs.

What do you think a band has to do these days to succeed?

DIY is the key. And grow beards.

Do you have any record releases to date? What? Where can I get it?

Our debut album Minor Industry is out on July 23 through Off The Hip. It ‘s available at all good independent record stores.

Why should everyone come and see your band?

Because Con will be serving awesome post gig souvlaki’s next door, and that’s worth getting off the couch for.

When are you playing live/releasing your album/EP/single/etc?

Saturday July 23 at Yah Yahs from 8pm with Swedish Magazines, Wrong Turn & Nici Blue Eyes.
