French electro-funk producer R. Djordan is back with the release of his latest album, 1984

The French music producer R. Djordan takes a new direction on 1984, the newest release from the prolific artist.

Taking its name and inspiration from the famous George Orwell novel, 1984 explores dystopian themes through groovy, ’80s-inspired electronic beats.

On the artist’s seventh album, he is joined by long-time collaborator Junior Souza on electric guitar, and Rubens Filho on bass, both hailing from Brazil. Fans may notice the vocals of Greek singer Athina on a few of the tracks, adding a human touch to the urban disco beats.

The new sound is a slight change of pace for R. Djordan. His first handful of albums, starting with his 2010 45-track mega release, had a breezier and more laid back vibe.

While the artist has held on to his signature bounce and flow, he has given it a bit of a darker twist. Listeners can feel classical influences under the funky surface, giving the music a more dramatic effect. Tracks like A Touch of Hope and 1984 Outro could be right at home on the soundtrack to the book’s film adaptation. The artist says he first found success with his new style rock orchestral while working on the track Days of Wrath.

In keeping with the sci-fi feel, vocoded vocals add an inhuman edge on songs like Orwellian Era and Mirage of Freedom. The robotic style gives the album a retro stamp, helping to tie the artist’s wide range of influences and styles together. Effortlessly vibey yet technically refined, this is undoubtedly R.Djordan’s most musically accomplished album yet.
