Father John Misty’s resolute shitheadedness was a kind of distraction around the release of his middling debut, but I’m willing to say it this time around: Bored In The USA is stunning. It’s a barroom ballad, underhanded in its ennui-instigated devastation: “Now I can’t get off / But I can kinda deal.” Brilliantly daring, what American songwriting should be in 2014.
