eXposure returns with nine emerging artists ready to make industry connections

Words by staff writer

eXposure Showcase #7 brings together breakthrough performers across multiple genres for Melbourne's premier networking showcase.

Nine diverse artists will take the Northcote Social Club stage for the seventh edition of eXposure, a live music event that has previously launched recording careers and secured management deals for emerging Australian talent. Founded post-lockdown as an alternative to pay-to-play showcases, eXposure Showcase #7 culminates in an all-artist grand finale featuring performers from rock, reggae, hip-hop, pop, soul, latin pop and country blues.

Founder Johnno Smallman brings 35 years of performing arts experience to the event, including work with Boy George, Billie Eilish and Coolio. Beyond performances, the showcase includes an exclusive industry panel where music management professionals and established artists share insights about breaking into the business, drawing industry professionals, scouts and music fans.

Featured artists span Melbourne’s independent music landscape with Black Shades & Arrogance delivering hard-hitting hip-hop, Michael Kay blending rnb genres, and Vanessa Lezama bringing latin pop backed by over 180,000 streams. HAZE combines pop, soul and ballads while Luca Li Petri offers rock pop supported by 20,000-plus streams.

Rik-E-Ragga returns as Melbourne’s self-proclaimed reggae king with a new band, alongside genre-fluid rapper Teyo Turner and indie-country artist Lucinda Caust. Ion Sky rounds out the lineup with raw rock energy aimed at leading a revival of the genre.

Built by artists for artists, the showcase operates without age restrictions and focuses on creating authentic industry connections rather than charging performers to participate. Previous editions have resulted in album releases, tour bookings and career-changing opportunities for participants.
