It’s Triple R Radiothon time from this Friday, which means there’s a ton of potential prizes on offer to those who subscribe between Friday August 17 and Wednesday September 26, so it’s an even better time than usual to subscribe. It’s impossible to deny the value Triple R community radio has to the Melbourne electronic music scene, whether it’s the long-running cross-genre Breaking And Entering show that explores and analyzes new releases, Chris Gill’s funky Get Down show, the soundcloud-digging disco obscurities of Leisure Link or any of the wonderful oddities that Triple R’s DJs have dedicated their time to. Plus, if you subscribe, you get a discount at a whole bunch of record stores around Melbourne. You’ve only got to buy a new record, like, every fortnight or something for that to end up paying for itself. Also, Triple R has just launched their new website, hallelujah.

Despite the site being used as a festival location for eight years now, resident opposition to the inaugural Bears Gone Bush Festival has forced its cancellation. The much-loved organisers Animals Dancing expressed their polite frustration with the community via Facebook last Thursday. “We had absolutely no reason to doubt the feasibility of our site until an 11th hour petition was launched late last week. After lengthy mediation and talks between ourselves, the site owners, and those voicing concerns, an amicable resolution was still not able to be reached.” In the festival’s place they’ve announced three nights held at clubs around Melbourne, dubbing it Bears Gone Bush Week. Elena Colombi will hit the The Gasometer Hotel on Friday September 21 with Millú and Pjenné. Interstellar Funk, Powder, Tolouse Low Trax, Alienata and Nosedrip will play at XE54 the following night. Also on the Saturday, Pender Street Steppers, Hashman Deejay and Tornado Wallace will hit Francis28.

This Friday August 17 is a party not to be missed – the Butter Sessions 8th birthday celebration at The Night Cat. For eight years, Corey and Maryos have been channelling the sounds of the suburbs to the clubs of Melbourne, via their own DJ/production efforts in Sleep D, as well as a slew of local talent like Cale Sexton, Dan White, Albrecht La’Brooy and plenty more. The party features live sets from Sleep D (of course), Cale Sexton, Rings Around Saturn, Albrecht La’Brooy, and Mosam Howieson with selection duties falling to Darcy Justice and Millú. There’ll also be a brand new split 7” available on the night featuring Sleep D and Turner Street Sound. Snazzy. Kicks off at 8pm.
