Brace yourselves, this Friday one of the all time greats is coming to town for Cool Room at Platform One; Steffi. Having held down an eight year residency at Berlin’s illustrious Panorama Bar, the Dutch born DJ/producer doesn’t limit herself to any one niche of music, embracing Dutch electro, IDM, breaks, Detroit techno – whatever feels right, Steffi will tie it into her musical narrative. With a heap of releases on Ostgut Ton as well as her own labels Klakson and Dolly, Steffi has established herself as a figurehead in the underground scene the world over. On local support duties is Jennifer Loveless, who’s copped a solid run of support slots lately. Kicks off at 11pm.
Also on Friday, just up the road at The Sub Club, the Dial-Up night is celebrating their second birthday. Kicking off at the now defunct Mercat basement in the wake of C:Grade, the Dial-Up crew quickly grew the night into its own beast and began drawing the C:Graders back to the basement. On board for their two year celebration of “poorly themed and decorated” parties, are residents Tom Baker, Cleverhands and Laika, as well as friends Darcy Justice and Basement Jack. Ten dollarydoos from 10pm.
Speaking of birthdays, the Raw Wax DJ collective are celebrating their three years together on Saturday at Howler. To mark the occasion they’ve asked Italo don Hysteric to set the vibe right, probably also so they can get celebrating with a bunch of tins themselves. Kicks off at 4pm.
Later on Saturday, things will be getting heavy and techno as Developer hits Machine at My Aeon. Hailing from LA’s seminal and nascent techno scene in the early ‘90s, Developer cut his teeth in radio, then the distribution side of the industry assisting labels Axis, Reload and Plus 8, to name a few. Over the course of two decades he helped forge a culture that today is reaching its peak. Much of his acclaim in performance has stemmed from strong marathon sets and insanely quick mixing skills – he’s known for his ability to play 50 tracks per hour on three turntables with an effect processor and sampler. Local support comes from Digital Primate, Matic, Andrew Till, Simon Slieker and Daniel Filipovic.
