Brother Ali has released All The Beauty In This World. The single Own Light has already had some revisits since its release. While that song is pretty dope, the rest of the album is just as suave. As always the lyrical content is positive, delivered with an intense earnest. Dear Black Son is a raw track dealing with real emotion. As the name would suggest, it’s a letter written from father to son.
Before They Called You White is a thought-provoking song. It takes a look at the concept of whiteness and its impact. Not just its impact on people of colour, but on white people themselves. With lyrics like “You’ll die colonizing for somebody else’s greed,” or “Got post traumatic slave master syndrome,” it offers a unique perspective.
The grime scene domination continues. It has exploded out of the U.K and is taking over airplay both in Australia and in the U.S. As part of this grime invasion, U.K rapper J Hus has released Common Sense. Stormzy fans will remember J Hus, as he featured on Bad Boys from the Gang Signs & Prayer album. J Hus’s 2015 mixtape The 15Th Day also had heads turning. Early indications of this album are showing nothing but good signs.
Not a grime rapper, but still from the U.K, Kojey Radical will be playing at The Curtin on Friday June 9. The London poet will be supported by 30/70, Cazeaux O.S.L.O, Skomes, and SO.Crates. His sets have been described as explosive, don’t miss his Australian debut.
Adelaide MC Rossi has let loose with his album Young Poet’s Society. The 12-track record has some real standouts on it. Get so Faded, and Young Poet’s Society are A-grade. On Top of the World featuring Monsta G also has a sweet video clip floating about.
Alex Sinclair, a Melbourne MC better known as Sinks has won the 2017 Hilltop Hoods Initiative. It is a yearly competition for Australian MCs, the winner receives a $10,000.00 grant to cover the costs of manufacturing, promoting, or mastering an album. Sinks has previously torched tracks with Calski, Raven, Nine Dots, and Context. He might not have the most content floating around in the ether, but every track he’s touched has been certified dope. As his first solo body of work is expected this year, it is certain to be something worth waiting for.
For live music lovers, Grumpy’s on Friday June 2 is the place to be. They’re hosting Selective Hearing Vol. 1 with 1/6, Barbone, and Context appearing for some fun. DJs Decktektive, Daily, and U-Wish will also be doing their thing.

In 2015 iiiConic released a single called Take It. The bedroom rapper was confident, spitting hard lines, he also assured us his album was on the way. Now in 2017, it’s becoming evident that there were some complications with his album release. We are still yet to see an EP or any extended body of play from the MC, just a steady stream of singles from 2015 until now. His latest single Damn featuring Jaylit has some heat to it. Hopefully this is the track that breaks him out of his album woes.
