Is there something about Friday April 7 that screams party time? ‘Cos there’s a buttload of stuff on. Firstly, we’ve got Banoffee heading up the Gasometer. Splitting her time between Los Angeles and Melbourne, she’s been busy writing and recording new material for a yet to be announced release. She’ll be playing a bunch of tunes unheard outside of the studio, so who knows what we’re in for. Backing her up is Sydney native Gussy and DJs Sovereign Trax and Jale.
Down at Boney, Autosea presents the German DJ/producer Oskar Offermann. The White and Rimini label head will be bringing his deep sounds to the permanently smoke machine-filled dancefloor alongside an incredibly strong lineup of local selectors: Awesome Wales, Matthew Coventry, Paul Lynch, Scotty Pesticide, Josh Keys, Raw Wax DJs, Mitchell Gee, Eskapet, String Theory, Sunbather and Professor Loops. Kicks off at 9pm, upstairs and down.
Another German DJ/producer, Etapp Kyle is set for a techno assault at Platform One for the long running As The Smoke Clears party. With releases on Ben Klock’s Klockworks label and Berghain’s Ostgut Ton and Underton labels, Kyle’s quickly gained notoriety in the Berlin and international techno scene as a key player. On support duties are Adrian Bell, Sarantis, Matt Radovich, PWD, Ranjit Nijjer, Azrin and Qualé. If you’re into that dark dystopian style of techno it doesn’t get much better.
Up on the northside, Green Fetish Records are back and throwing a party at My Aeon to celebrate. Local selectors Craig McWhinney, Chiara Kickdrum, Sly Faux, Lateral, Mickey Nox and John Doe are on board for the occasion. If you’re looking for a budget friendly dose of slammin’ techno to soothe those week to week woes, there’s nothing to slouch at here.
Back in the city, (yes, I’m still talking about Friday April 7), ¿Club D’érange? is back and taking over the newly renovated Hugs&Kisses. Fresh from her Golden Plains appearance the other week, Brooke Powers is leading the charge to escapism, with Daddy’s Garage and Millu rounding out the evening. It kicks off at 11pm.
On Saturday April 8, local legends Shouse are throwing a party on the Evelyn rooftop to launch their new single Without You on Smooch Records. Everything these guys touch is smooth as silk and I’m looking forward to giving it a spin. Starting out the day will be Liahona, Toni Yotzi and DJ Demeanor Mcintosh, with Shouse taking to the stage around sunset. Like I said, smooth as.
Later that night, we cop our first Inner Varnika sideshow with D.Tiffany set to rip into Lucid at Lounge. I hadn’t heard of D.Tiffany until she was announced for Inner Varnika, but I really dig what I’ve heard, elements of jungle, electro, house – I like variety. Plus, it’s free before midnight. Joining her is Brisbane’s Emma Stevenson, Canberra’s Soul Crane and local dawgs Raw Wax and 6am At The Garage.
