Didn’t get tickets to Adele? Don’t worry my fellow Melburnians, there’s plenty of other dance floors around Melbourne that won’t bat an eyelid at your funny mum-dancing. At Brown Alley on Friday March 17 John Talabot and Axel Bowman do a Power Rangers Megazord type thing and combine their powers to become Talaboman. Clever what they did with their name there isn’t it? With Boman’s dusty soul and sunshine influenced sound combined with Talabot’s more ominous techno influenced sound, their extended five-hour set will no doubt be a journey through the many moods of dance music. Having just released The Night Land on R&S, they’ll be in fine form.
Also on Friday March 17 and also at Brown Alley (I guess one event is upstairs and the other downstairs) is Stranger, featuring relentless techno heavyweights Paula Temple and Answer Code Request. A self-confessed Noisician, Paula Temple obliterated minds with Deathvox, her second monumental release for R&S. Her debut Colonized EP made one of the biggest statements in recent years for uncompromising techno. Her refreshing high-voltage output has rapidly placed Paula Temple at the forefront of new techno. Local support comes from Dj Kiti, Dave Pham, Tom Mohr & Patrick Stokes, Jani, Joey Sarantis and TFG. Novel are doing a discounted dual ticket to both the above events too, so you can catch it all if you’re bummed about the clash.
On Saturday at The Toff, The House De Frost and Daydreams are hosting New York DJ/producer Anthony Naples. With releases under his belt on Four Tet’s label Text Records, Rubadub Records and Mister Saturday Night Records, his output is a mish mash of upbeat house numbers and more leftfield experimentations. His DJ sets also vary, but whether he’s playing a set of flat-stick house poppers, extended disco jam styles or some more ambient dance pieces; he always nails the shit out of it. Kicks off at 11pm.
