“We started this band for fun and never wanted it to be a serious ‘let’s try and be as big our last band and replace Sunk Loto” kind of thing,” says vocalist Jason Brown, “We were all just stoked to be playing in a kickass rock band with our best mates. The idea was just to rock the fuck out, drink a lot of alcohol and have a dick load of fun.”
In the wake of the break up that surprised metal fans around the country, many were unsure if any future releases would be seen from any of the Sunk Loto crew. It seems this uncertainty may have been shared by the Brown brothers. “Well Dane and I were really not into the idea of starting another band after the bad taste that our last band’s split had left on our palettes. But after our first few jams with Electric Horse my taste buds were rejuvenated with a new found friendship with the guys in this band. In the end the relationships in Sunk were very strained and it was just really painful to even be in the same room as each other, but with this band there are no bullshit attitudes and we enjoy hangin’ out together just as much as playing music together.”
Developing a new dynamic, both between with each other and sonically, can sometimes destroy a band before their name reaches a photocopied flyer. However, it does help when you’ve previously hung out with the guys you are now jamming with. “Yeah we knew each other from being in other bands from the Gold Coast and hanging out when when our old bands were on the same shows, but didn’t really know each other that well. We did a fair bit of demoing before we released our first EP but we are all on the same wave length musically. We will continue to refine our sound as we grow as a band though.”
Currently touring in support of their new single Beneath the Scars, Brown reflects on our local punters “We always enjoy Melbourne crowds because the crowds seem to be real music lovers but we try and make the most out of every audience we play to.” Their upcoming shows with Sir Apples – featuring two members of Engine Three Seven – are not to be missed. It will likely the last chance we will have to see ‘The Horse’ in action until their debut album is completed. “I think we need to focus on getting this record done and then hopefully tour it nationally mid next year. I think It will be totally new material, we have heaps of new songs and they are sound a lot faster and rockier so we hope to be recording it early next year.”
