“It was sort of an application process a while ago, around March, and they just choose three bands for the process,” explains George. “From there the three bands went in and recorded their own EP, got it mixed and mastered and, yeah, it’s nearly ready for release. We’re releasing in two weeks time on September 15.”

The official launch will be celebrated with an artist showcase at the Northcote Town Hall, where Rosie & George will perform alongside labelmates Animaux and The Kilnik. “Yeah that’s going to be awesome,” exclaims George. “It’ll be a really good night at the Town Hall. Yeah I guess it’ll be the first proper launch we’ve had.”

“There will hopefully be a fair few people there so yeah it should be pretty good,” adds Stav.

The logistics of getting any sort of record out, especially for a young band, can prove fairly daunting so it’s pretty rad that Rosie & George had the help of the Decibels Records program to assist them thorough every step of the process. And it was a process that the band thoroughly enjoyed, especially walking away with an EP in their pocket. “I’d say the recording part,” admits Stav as to his favourite step in the process. “Being in the studio was pretty good. I think just going through the pre-production was pretty good.” “And like getting a lot of help and stuff,” adds George. “We got it mastered which we wouldn’t have done otherwise. Yeah, and it was a really community-based thing so we met a lot of other musicians too.”

When it came to writing the material for the EP the band wanted to make sure that the record showed off their diverse range of influences and musical styles.”To lay down like four or five pretty solid tracks I suppose,” admits Stav as to the bands main goal. “With a wide variety as well,” interjects George. “They go from full on country songs about murder and then we have one song that’s about the sunshine.”

Murder and sunshine aside, there’s no doubt that Rosie & George’s career has greatly benefited from having being involved in the Decibels Records initiative. The band plan to continue playing as much as possible – hoping to venture interstate, score further support slots and gett back into the recording studio.

“Well our next gig after the Town Hall, we’re going to support The Vaudeville Smash at the Corner Hotel,” George informs me. “And then after that, like we’re just hoping to get a few festival spots over the summer and yeah, you know just go from there I guess. Just playing lots over summer, writing new stuff and getting around to a new EP.” Stav’s looking forward to, he says, “A fair bit of touring.”.
