Rock legend Cherie Currie has announced her final Australian tour, bringing the curtain down on a trailblazing career that helped redefine women's role in rock'n'roll.
Former Runaways frontwoman Cherie Currie will return to Australian shores this September, marking only her second visit since her 2016 debut tour. The five-date run kicks off in Perth on 5 September before wrapping up in Brisbane on 13 September.
Known for her powerful vocals on the iconic anthem Cherry Bomb, Currie burst onto the scene in the mid-70s as the teenage voice of the Runaways. Her blend of raw talent and theatrical presence earned her the nickname “the lost daughter of Iggy Pop and Brigitte Bardot”.

While the Runaways never made it to Australia during their original run, Currie’s solo performances have given local audiences a taste of that pioneering spirit. Her 2016 shows drew acclaim, with New Wave Go noting that she “came across like a panther let out of a cage” and “truly owned the stage”.
Beyond music, Currie carved out a career in acting, notably starring alongside Jodie Foster in the 1980 film Foxes. Her life story later hit the big screen in The Runaways biopic, with Dakota Fanning portraying the young singer.
For this farewell tour, Currie will be supported by Melbourne outfit Hot Machine. The five-piece all-female rock band has been turning heads with their debut EP Leather and Steel, released in 2024.
The tour includes stops at Perth’s Rosemount Hotel, Adelaide’s Crown and Anchor, Melbourne’s Corner Hotel, and Sydney and Brisbane’s Crowbar venues. Meet and greet packages are available for fans wanting a final chance to meet the rock icon.
Currie promises a setlist packed with Runaways classics and solo material, giving Australian fans one last opportunity to witness a performer who helped pave the way for generations of women in rock music.
