Legendary sad man Will Oldham returns with his umpteenth album, Wolfrey Goes To Town, which is littered with spare, heartbreaking ballads just like this one. “As boys we fucked each other,” he begins, “As men, we lie and smile.” With the lightest rolling notes of acoustic guitar and high breathy support vocals from Angel Olsen, he ruminates on the pitched battles of long-term relationships, the unbreakable patterns and the dogged commitment, building to an energetic pitch of seventies-fused folk, then collapsing back into resignation and regret.
