Tell us about your show.
Frankie Valentine: Baby Got Back is a collective of female performers driven to explore concepts of the body in a live, multimedia space. We use dance, puppetry, burlesque, circus, film and stripping to entertain and to shine light on the female experience.
Vesper White: It’s a real wildcard of a show. We do the weird, sexy, bizarre shit you don’t see anywhere else.
How did your sell-out success at Fringe World bring Baby Got Back to new heights?
FV: We’re so happy that people enjoy the show. Selling shows allows us to make the work that we do. The success of the show and the incredible responses we’ve received has inspired us to push ourselves harder creatively, to create stronger work, and to come back year after year with a bigger and better show.
How do you use different forms of media in your show?
FV: We want the show to be an immersive multimedia experience; we like our audience to be stimulated visually, sonically, possibly physically and definitely emotionally.
How do you keep each performance fresh?
VW: Initially, the show was simply about a celebration of women’s bodies and a mutual appreciation of arse, surfing this booty-obsessed wave in popular culture. As we’ve continued to do the show, it’s evolved into something far more politically relevant.
