Best of Midsumma 2017: Queer and Alternative Life Drawing

Tell us about your event.  Queer and Alternative Life Drawing is inspired by events I run at Confest alternative living festival. A variety of models will be posing outside the normal life drawing roles for example in same sex couples or in tableaux of three or more. I can provide informal coaching for new artists so the event is suitable for anyone over 18 with a broad mind and an artistic streak.

What does your class say about society today? Australians could be more relaxed about our bodies. Art is a social laboratory where society experiments with new ideas of the normal – this will only work if arts organisations and society support artistic freedom.

What sets your show apart from others running during Midsumma?  My show is unique because artists and models together create a live event. Artists can come for free if they are willing to pose for an hour. The event will be held in the St Heliers Gallery at the Abbotsford Convent where my photomontage exhibition Scarlatta is on display.

What do you want audiences to take away from your show? Participants will take away a better understanding of the wonderful diversity we have in marvellous Melbourne and some new skills in expressing themselves.
