New Year’s Eve 2011:

The Falls Music And Arts Festival
One of Victoria’s annual music festivals, held in the glorious mossy surrounds of Lorne over the New Year’s weekend, will once again be drawing the ‘cool young dudes’ crowd away from the city and down the Great Ocean Road for the best international and local musical treats for 2011. Falls Festival boasts a lineup in very democratic fashion of alphabetical order including Arctic Monkeys, Beirut, Crystal Castles, CSS, Fleet Foxes, Grouplove, The Grates, The Jezabels, The Kooks, Metronomy, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Unknown Mortal Orchestra, among a plethora of others. Brit boys Arctic Monkeys have just been announced to be on-stage to ring in the New Year, so get ready to suck it and see in 2012. Falls Festival runs from December 28 to January 1.

Pyramid Rock Festival
Do you like natural scenery, ocean views and live music? If so the only place to be this New Year’s Eve is Pyramid Rock Festival, taking place from December 29 through to January 1. A Guy Called Gerald At New Guernica
Having A Guy Called Gerald fly over from a distant planet to lead the resistance group of civilians is a great idea, playing off the fact that he was a pioneer in the acid house movement and the never forgotten ecstasy fueled British Summer of Love house explosion easily gives him the right amount of reverence for your story. His classic track,Voodoo Ray, can be used as the theme song for when we develop the full length feature film in a couple of year’s time. It’s all going down at New Guernica on New Year’s Eve.

6th Borough Project + Motor City Drum Ensemble
Melbourne’s finest party purveyors Animals Dancing are responsible for some of Melbourne’s most debaucherous box socials in recent times, and following all night raves with the likes of Marcellus Pittman, Jacques Renault and Justin Vandervolgen they’re returning on New Year’s Day with their biggest party yet. Launching 2012 in spectacular fashion will be none other than the 6th Borough Project. At the forefront of the amicable Delusions Of Grandeur and Instruments of Rapture labels, Craig Smith & Graeme Clark (The Revenge) have worked together in the studio for almost a decade, producing house jams and exploring long forgotten funk and dusty disco dubs, which saw the release of their debut LP this year, One Night In The Borough. They’ll be joined by Danilo Plessow aka Motor City Drum Ensemble. Last visiting our shores in 2009, Danilo is revered for his chamelonic composition skills, production finesse and remix mastery which delve deep into the depths of Detroit house and techno. Following on from his venerated Raw Cuts series and his recent DJ-Kicks mix, he’ll be joined by the resident Animals Dancing selectors, Tornado Wallace, Fantastic Man, Francis Inferno Orchestra, Myles Mac & Andy Hart, Andee Frost and Otologic. This one is sold out, so if y’don’t have tickets, ya’ ain’t getting in.

DJ Yoda At The Espy
DJ Yoda takes an inimitable approach to the art of the mixture. Most other superstar DJs in the ‘90s were stroking their own egos and demanding huge fees, but Yoda was doing it for laughs – a quality that has distinguished him from others, and made him such an enduring and well-loved figure. Most renowned for his How to Cut and Paste series that exemplified his irreverent, cheeky approach to getting down – I mean, where else are you likely to hear Wu-Tang, Rick Astley, A Tribe Called Quest and the Star Wars theme on one mix? No wonder institutions like Q Magazine have declared him an act essential to every music fan’s live experiences, with his ridiculous skills on the turntable that see him blending influences from funk, reggae, drum and bass, big band swing and country into a mind-blowingly unique aural experience – in demand from BBC Radio One, where he makes regular appearances alongside Steve Lamacq and Annie Mac. Laughs and good times – that’s what dance music should be about, right? Get yo’self to The Espy on New Year’s Day.

Pete Rock At Laundry
Widely regarded as one of the greatest hip hop producers of all time, Pete Rock first rose to prominence as part of the hugely influential duo Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth. From there, he has embarked on an unrivalled production and solo career spanning two decades. Catch him on his Australian tour at Laundry Bar New Year’s Day.

The Revenge At New Guernica
House and disco stalwart Graeme Clark, the man behind The Revenge, began his love affair with the music scene as a young teenager, learning how to make a skewed, inventive blend of electronic beats with a few of Dad’s old drum machines and a sampler. While studying sound production at university, him and a few mates began label Five20East in 1999 with brothers Scott & Ross Langley as an outlet for their own productions, seeing him work with producers such as Sub Club’s Harri and Soul Heaven’s Craig Smith, and recent works include releases on Disco Deviance and Motor City Drum Ensemble’s label MCDE, along with remixes for Holy Ghost!, Deep Space Orchestra, Tornado Wallace and more. He’ll take over New Guernica on New Year’s Day night.
