The Australian Women in Music Awards (AWMA) are bigger and better than ever in 2022, with the likes of Tina Arena, Dizzy Doolan, Hot Brown Honey set to perform in a ceremony broadcast on the ABC.
While it goes down at The Tivoli in Brisbane, the AWMAs are a landmark event for the Australian music industry nationwide, and part of a broader conference that takes place on May 17 and 18 this year.
The awards have just announced this year’s lineup, including Tina Arena, Emma Donovan & Kee àhn, BARKAA & Dizzy Doolan, Sahara Beck, DJ Red Belly, Sandy Evans & Satsuki Odamura, Kween G & Lady Lash, Hot Brown Honey, Montaigne, Shakaya and Kaylah Truth.

“These awards will recognise the talents of women from across the country who are inspiring young girls everywhere to follow their passion in music,” Queensland attorney-general Shannon Fentiman said. “The AWMA play an important role providing visiblity to the challenges facing women in the industry and help to create more opportunities for Australian women in music, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds.
“The First Nations and remote community focus of this year’s program is particularly exciting as it will provide some fantastic development and exposure opportunities for emerging female talent. We still have a way to go when it comes to achieving gender equity and diversity but it’s events like these which provide a stage for these important conversations to happen.”
The AWMAs will add one of the defining popstars of the 1980s Olivia Newton-John to its legends list, inducting her alongside Helen Reddy and Judith Durham. There will also be a performance of a new classical compositon by Elena Kats-Chernin titled ‘Jubilissima‘ to be performed with trumpeter Leanne Sullivan.
