There's a new Pulp documentary landing in cinemas before it hits your streaming queue.
Britpop’s most beloved outsiders, Pulp, are getting the full big-screen treatment, and Melbourne is one of only two cities in the world getting first dibs.
PULP: What Do You Do For An Encore? is set to storm Melbourne cinemas before it lands exclusively on MUBI streaming.
The one-night-only event beats the wider release by a couple of days, giving local fans the very first look at the film anywhere on the planet.
Directed by longtime Pulp collaborator Garth Jennings and narrated by frontman Jarvis Cocker, the doco will screen at The Astor Theatre in St Kilda while also screening simultaneously across the country in Sydney.

Each screening comes with a specially recorded introduction from Cocker and Jennings, plus an exclusive Q&A filmed just for the event – neither of which will show up when the film lands on MUBI.
Captured during Pulp’s triumphant 2025 tour, the tail end of which Beat writer Bryget Chrisfield was at to review, the film blends footage from the band’s inventive live show with four decades’ worth of never-before-seen archival material, tracing their path from Sheffield outsiders to unlikely cultural icons.
The doco is billed as a must see tribute to a group whose sharp social commentary, sardonic wit and lasting empathy for their audience have kept fans coming back for generations.
PULP: What Do You Do For An Encore? will be available exclusively on MUBI globally from 25 September, meaning anyone who misses the cinema event can still catch Jennings’ portrait of the band from home not long after.
