Coming to Melbourne as part of Asia TOPA, Metal sees art forms and cultures combine through a transcendent performance.

Created across Melbourne and Bandung, Indonesia, Metal is an unlikely collaboration between Melbourne-based dance company Lucy Guerin Inc and underground heavy metal choir Ensemble Tikoro.

Featuring five dancers and eight metal-heads, the performance sees two worlds collide in an expression of contrasting belief systems, cultures, and creative mediums.

Premiering as part of Asia TOPA, a celebration of creative artists and cultures in the Asia-Pacific region, Metal will see Ensemble Tikoro making their first appearance outside Indonesia. Hailing from a town situated beneath Tangkuban Perahu, an active volcano, the performance embodies the concept of one world spilling into another with explosive energy.

Bringing the traditional art of throat singing into the contemporary spaces of modern dance and underground metal, the performance looks to forge a pathway to a globalised world.

Metal comes as part of this year’s expansive Asia TOPA program, spanning music, dance, theatre, contemporary performance, film, digital and visual art, public talks and more.

Metal hits Arts Centre Melbourne from Monday February 24 until Thursday February 27, tickets via the Asia TOPA website
