Aireys Inlet Open Mic Music Festival postpones event

Open Mic Music festival

One of our favourite regional festivals has postponed its 15th edition.

In a devastating blow to the local music industry, one of the biggest open mic festivals Aireys Open Mic Music Festival has been postponed because of concerns about the rapid spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

Due to being its 15th year, the festival was set to take over this coastal town from Friday 18 – Sunday 20 March, with over 150 acts performing across nine different stages, alongside two special mystery guests however festival organisers announced the news of postponing last week.

Keep up with the latest music news, features, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

“Unfortunately due to the rampant outbreak of the Covid Omicron virus the Festival Directors have decided to postpone the 2022 Festival at this stage. We will continue to monitor the situation and advise both Festival goers and performers in due course,” the festival said.
“Those who have already expressed interest in performing will be contacted individually. Keep an eye on our website and socials for any updates, we look forward to rocking out with you when it’s safe to do so.”

Organisers are yet to announce a new date for the festival. Artist expressions of interest had opened just days prior on January 1 2022.

The whole idea behind the beloved festival is to give artists a chance to perform in front of an appreciative audience and to encourage a love of music. From full rock bands to solo acoustic acts – anyone can apply when registrations open.

The 2021 edition saw the likes of Jothi, Momoko Rose, Cry Baby, Benjamin Trillado, Seph Cove, Acoustic Foxx, St Augustine, Lucy Lorenne, Cosmic Rain, Dirty Dance Machine, and Rifle Birds take to the stage, alongside Seb Szabo, Tapes, RiordanButterfunked, Wildflower, The Mojo Corner, Daniel Aaron, Intrepid Soul, and Sam Buckley, just to name a few. Some are names you’ll recognise from the local touring circuit, while others are emerging musicians ready to share their talent and love of music to an adoring crowd across nine different stages. And that’s consistent with the festival each and every year.

Providing a fantastic opportunity for musicians and with annual attendance at over 5000 across the three days, here’s hoping the festival can forge ahead in the not too distant future.
