ACMI will pay tribute to women of the screen in next year's Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition Goddess.

From Marlene Dietrich to Pam Grier to Tilda Swinton to Margot Robbie, ACMI’s latest blockbuster Winter Masterpieces exhibition will celebrate the formidable women of the screen through never-before-seen costumes, large-scale projections, interactive experiences and more.

A celebration of the game-changing women of film, Goddess will run from April 5 until October 1 at ACMI.

An exhibition celebrating the women who have shaped film on and off the screen, going behind the lens to examine the Hollywood heroines who have defined and disrupted the expectations of femininity and gender throughout cinema culture.

Featuring evocative soundscapes from Naarm/Melbourne-based composer Chiara Kickdrum, there is set to be over 150 costumes, props and items on display that tell the story of the femme provocateurs of film. With Mae West’s heels iconically worn in Belle of the Nineties (1934) and the costumes from Thelma & Louise (1991), Goddess is a vibrant world-premiere exhibition that is set to tour internationally after it leaves ACMI.

“The women of Goddess are bold, rebellious and defiant,” says ACMI Director of Experience & Engagement, Dr Britt Romstad. “Their power is expressed in numerous ways – in what they wear, how they move and the stories they tell.”

“ACMI’s exhibition honours their influence and daring, and explores how they have transformed the face and expectations of on-screen femininity for audiences, time and time again.”

Goddess will run from April 5 until October 1 at ACMI. For more information, head here.
